Professional Learning Community


Educators are invited to participate in the following Early Education and Care and Out of School Time Professional Learning Communities (PLC). During these sessions, educators will participate in reflective dialogue around a specific topic and discuss successes, challenges, and strategies that result in better programs for children in early childhood settings. This is an opportunity to learn from, with, and on behalf of each other as early childhood and out of school time professionals.

Educators may attend one or all of the sessions.

Effective Teacher – Child Interactions in Early Childhood Settings.
This PLC is designed to support educators in the use of the Arnett or CLASS QRIS tools. Participants should have already attended an Arnett or CLASS training and be using the tool in their program. During this session, participants will discuss what is working and what is challenging. Through conversation and exploration of current teacher-child interactions in your program, participants will discuss strategies and ideas that to further support effective teacher-child interactions that support children’s development and learning.

Quality Early Childhood and Out of School Time Environments
This PLC is designed to support educators in the use of Environment Rating Scale (ITERs, ECERs, FCCRs, and/or SACERs). Participants should have already attended a training and be using the Environment Rating scale in their program. During this session, participants will share what is working and what is challenging. Through conversation and exploration of current program environments, participants will discuss strategies and explore ideas to enrich your environment according to the Environment Rating Scale you are using in your program.

Early Childhood Leadership and Management - Business Practices in Early Childhood Settings
This PLC is designed to support educators in the use of Business or Program Administration Scale (PAS/BAS). Participants should have already attended a training and/or be using the PAS or BAS in their program. During this session, participants will share what is working and what is challenging in regard to these tools. Through conversation and exploration of current program business practices, participants will discuss strategies and explore ideas to help you with implementation of the PAS/BAS in your program.

Strategies to Strengthen Families in Early Childhood Settings
This PLC is designed to support educators in the use of Strengthening Families and the Five Protective Factors. Participants should have already attended a training and be using the Strengthening Families self -assessment in their program. Early education and care and out of school time programs play a vital role in supporting families, which in turn, can reduce child abuse and neglect. In this session, participants will discuss current practices in support of strengthening families, as well as strategies to integrate additional supports into current programming.
